How can i tell the size of my carrier ac unit by mod.24ABA424A300 ser.2006E31648Carrier split AC Model Number Breakdown for 24 series: 13 place long model number You have provided only 12 place values. Your model number provided is incomplete and incorrect. If you got the 3rd, 4th, and 5th position letters correct then the 12th position should be a 3 which would represent voltage 208/230 single phase. The APPARENT answer you seek is found in the 7th and 8th position values. (Without the 6th position which is SEER and information on the inside coil - as well as size, length lines, and other considerations - that information remains incomplete regarding the suspected/inferred question of system capacity). 24 = (1st & 2nd position=Product Series) 24 = Air Conditioning 24 A = (3rd position=Product Family) A = Residental AC 24A B = (4th position=Tier) B = Base Unit 24AB A = (5th position=Major Series) A = Puron. 24ABA 4 = (6th position=SEER) ' 4' = 14 SEER. (If the 6th position is actually a '3' that would be 13 SEER. 24ABA4 24 = (7th & 8th position= cooling capacity) 24 = 24000 btuh. (7th & 8th position, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 60 value plus 3 zeros = btuh) 24ABA424 A = (9th position=variation) (alpha or numeric) A = Standard 24ABA424A xx = (10th & 11th positions) open placeholders might be Alpha or Numeric 24ABA424Axx 3 = (12th position=Voltage) 3=208/230 Single Phase 24ABA424Axx3 0 = (13th position=Series) 0=Original Series. 24ABA4 24A??30 24 = 24000 Btuh. Since Model Number information you submitted is short a position holder and likely has the wrong value for the 12th position, Can't/won't answer for sure. However, with the information I've provided about the de-coding of such a model number you should be able to determine for yourself AFTER you've RECHECKED and come up with a COMPLETE and CORRECT model number from the data plate. Your best information would easily be acquired by calling 1-800-CARRIER 8-5 ET M-F. Last edited by H.G. Watson, Sr.; at 09:29 PM. Check the model # and post it again. No match found.John K.: When you're searching most mfg's series condensors you go by product family. If you 'google.ca' search throw in (without the quotes) 'Carrier 24ABA' or 'Carrier 24ABA3' or Carrier '24ABA4' and you'll find scores of links which will include the specifications for same. For an Owner's maintenance document (in Fr. Or En) one only uses the first five positions at the mfg's North American website. With matched (SEER) indoor coil or could be mixed (such as lower SEER indoor coil, such as 13, 13.5, etc.) lots of options to figure such as air flow, etc. Regarding efficiency, capacity/performance. During that time period, they used N = January, O = February, etc., so it's February 1988. The older Carrier serial numbers can be confusing. A while back Carrier switched from a letter + 2 digit year coding, to the current 2-digit week + 2-digit year. Carrier Commercial Model Number LookupI thought that started in 1990, but I have also heard that started sometime in the 1980's. However my understanding is that for the older units/coding Carrier didn't use the letter 'O' (or the letter 'I') in the serial number coding, due to possible confusion over if it's a letter or number. I guess it's also possible that it's Week 08 of 1982 (0882xxx) and that older/used equipment was used. Probably the best thing to do is call Carrier. And let us know what the outcome is because I am curious if they actually did use the letter 'O'. According to my research, they did, indeed, use the letter O. Now why in the hec they used the system they did (N = January, O = February, etc.) is beyond me. Perhaps because everyone else was using A = January, B = February, etc.? Unfortunately, many companies have done away with the convention of not using the letters I and O. However, if you look real hard at other stampings on the manufacturer's plate, one can usually differentiate between letters and numbers, although I have confused G with 6, S with 5, B with 8, 3 with 8, and Z with 2, as well. Darn margaritas. Serial number 0882994 (I thought the first 4 digits were the week/year?) Model number: 58ED050130CA MANUF. NO.: House date: 1989. Thanks folks. This one stumped me. Joe, I don't believe Carrier used the letter 'O' in their serial numbers during the 1980's. The sequence was 'N' = January, 'P' = February, 'Q' = March, etc. Could you have mistaken the 'Q' for an 'O'? Carrier Model Number LookupIf the serial number is Q882994 then the date of manufacture is March 1988. I could be wrong but this seems the most likely answer. Now why in the hec they used the system they did (N = January, O = February, etc.) is beyond me. Perhaps because everyone else was using A = January, B = February, etc.? My understanding of the Carrier S/N coding is as follows: For 1969 and earlier equipment they used a seven-digit S/N that was like egyptian hieroglyphics trying to figure out. So starting in 1970 they switched to a seven-character S/N, with a letter followed by six digits. For 1970 thru 1979 they used letters 'A' thru 'M' for the month (Jan-Dec, without the letter 'I') followed by a 2-digit year.
